An open day is to be held in the recently-refurbished Northumberland Hall in Alnwick and the public is welcome to come along to see the new-look community and wedding venue.

During the open day, the venue will be laid out to show how it could look as a wedding venue, or for a community function.

The event will take place between 11am and 2pm on Sunday, October 9.

Organisers say that the open day will be of particular interest to organisations and residents looking to hold a function or party in the town and for couples looking for an ‘affordable and attractive’ wedding venue, however everyone is welcome to call in and look around. Coun Liz Simpson, the county council’s lead member for the accommodation review said: “The hall now looks fantastic inside and will make a beautiful venue for events, parties and weddings.

“I’d encourage people to pop in and have a look around. I think they’ll be pleasantly surprised. It would be great if we could return it to the thriving community venue that it once was and deserves to be.”

The Grade I-listed building was built in 1826 by the third Duke of Northumberland, but over recent years it had been looking increasingly tired and dated inside.

It has now had a full internal refurbishment in keeping with its heritage. Acoustic glass has been installed to limit outside noise, new kitchen facilities have been installed and the toilets have been refurbished. The existing flooring, fireplaces, mirrors and chandeliers have all been retained.
