Open-air screenings of Harry Potter and Robin Hood at Alnwick Castle
Open-air screenings of two hit films are being staged at Alnwick Castle this summer '“ where scenes from the movies were filmed.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (PG) will be screened at the end of August, before Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (12) will be shown at the start of September.
The historic fortress doubled up as Hogwarts for the first two instalments of the Harry Potter series, which chronicles the adventures of the boy wizard and stars Daniel Radcliffe. Filming for the Philosopher’s Stone took place at the castle and scenes included Harry’s first Quidditch lesson.
Meanwhile, the castle's courtyard was used for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner, while Hulne Priory, in nearby Hulne Park, also featured in the film.
The Philosopher's Stone, which is the first Harry Potter movie, will be screened at Alnwick Castle on Wednesday, August 31, while Robin Hood will be shown on Thursday, September 1.
The evening screenings are being brought to the castle courtesy of Luna Cinema – the country’s leading producer of open-air cinema events.
Tickets for each film are £13.50 adult, £9 child (3-15), £6.75 disabled and carer admission, and £26 Premium (chair in prime position within the arena; Complimentary drink at the Luna Bar; Fast track queuing to the Luna bar). Any bookings of ten or more tickets will receive a £1 discount off each ticket. Gates open to the public at 6.30pm for each screening and both films start at 8pm.
The events will go ahead in the event of bad weather. Screenings will only be cancelled if the weather conditions present a danger at screening time.
People are welcome to bring their own food and drinks and picnics along. There is a strictly no glass policy, so only bring drinks in cans or plastic bottles with you. Alcohol is not permitted to be brought onto the site, but there will be bars on the nights. There will also be food outlets selling a range of items, including fish and chips, pizza, pie and chips. Vegetarian options will also be available.
