Victoria Anderson, managing director of Art Evolution based in Felton, is set to redress the inequality balance in the art world by creating the first online gallery exclusively for female artists.

Her decision follows a report published last year that shows just 31 per cent of artists are female in London-based galleries, while only 40 per cent of artists represented in galleries across Britain are women.

Victoria said: “Just as in the corporate world, discrimination towards women affects the art industry. It’s my mission to help women artists in Northumberland, the UK and further afield, to promote and sell their artwork online in an environment where they feel confident, comfortable, and empowered.”

Art Evolution was set up 14 years ago with the ambition to break the barriers that people encounter when choosing and buying artwork.
