Old-time music has attitude

The gig will take place at St Cuthbert’s House in Seahouses on Sunday, August 5.

The Hot Seats defy all attempts to categorise their music. It’s an irresistible combination, with elements of jug band, Vaudeville, country blues, old-time and choice covers all added to the mix.

The band hurtles down the musical helter-skelter, and the result is widely acknowledged to be absolutely electric.

In winning a coveted Herald Angel, for their outstanding contribution to the Edinburgh Fringe, they were described as ‘simply sensational’.

Host Jeff Sutheran said: “Great musicianship aside, it’s impossible to explain what makes them so fantastic to see and hear, as their live show is stuffed full of all kinds of intoxicating fun.

“They have become firm festival favourites over the years, because their musical virtuosity is peppered with good humour and all manner of eccentricities.”

Their original material is simultaneously hard to classify and instantly identifiable, combining the virtuosic soloing and tightness of bluegrass, the band-driven rhythm of old time, the jerky bounce of ragtime, and the swagger of good old rock and roll.

Reviewers have attempted to pin them down as a “bubbling fountain of virtuosic insanity” and “bonkers but brilliant”.

They will be playing at the Seahouses guest house on Sunday.
