Officers take action on drugs in Northumberland

Following information from the community, police carried out seven search warrants on March 2, March 3 and March 4, to target those suspected of supplying illegal drugs in Blyth.

Whilst activity is still ongoing, two men aged 29 and 28 have been arrested and a quantity of Class A, B and C drugs have been recovered as well as a stun gun and items of stolen property.

The activity comes after two separate incidents in Blyth where one man died and another man was found in a critical condition after taking a quantity of drugs earlier this week - believed to have included heroin and valium.

Blyth Neighbourhood Inspector, Grant Dawson, said: “We want to reassure all members of the community that drugs and drug crime will not be tolerated here in our area and we are committed to disrupting the supply of illegal drugs in the town.

“Drugs cause misery in communities and the people targeting the vulnerable and most at risk with illegal drugs will be identified and dealt with.

“If anyone has any information about drugs and drugs supply we’d urge them to contact us as information we receive from members of the public is vital in helping us take them off our streets.”
