A NEW chief fire officer has been appointed to Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.
Alex Bennett, who has been in the role of acting chief fire officer since December 2010, will take on the responsibility.
He as deputy chief fire officer at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service since 2005.
Before transferring to Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service in 2002, Alex previously served in Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Mr Bennett said: “I am very pleased to be appointed to the role of chief fire officer in Northumberland. With the help of my colleagues, I aim to build on the high standards set by the service.
“This will be done by continuing to provide an effective response to fires, floods and other emergencies.
“Community safety will remain a key part of our work to prevent incidents occurring and our efforts to protect those people living, working and spending time in Northumberland.”
Coun Anita Romer, Northumberland County Council’s executive member for public protection, said: “I would like to congratulate Alex Bennett on his appointment as Chief Fire Officer.
“I have worked extremely well with Alex during the past nine months and I am confident that, with his proven record of delivering a first class service, he is the right person for the job.”
