The live music weekender at Times Square, Newcastle, on Saturday, and Sunday July 30 and 31 will see the 90s band play on the first day of the event with a host of other acts also lined up.

The band - whose chart-topping anthems include The Riverboat Song & The Day We Caught The Train – are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of their legendary Moseley Shoals album and will be taking part in a two-day indie showdown in the centre of Newcastle this summer.

Ocean Colour Scene will also be joined by fellow 90s stalwarts Shed Seven as well as Sunderland rock popsmiths Hyde & Beast – who's chief vocalist and guitarist was a member of English post-punk outfit The Futureheads.

The event is being hosted by the men behind the celebrated Newcastle clubbing venues Digital and Think Tank in collaboration with the Centre for Life.

Speaking ahead of the eagerly anticipated return of Ocean Colour Scene to the region, SSD Concerts' Steve Davis, said: “Growing up, the Moseley Shoals album and Ocean Colour Scene's music was a constant feature in all of our lives and we're delighted to be able to bring them back to Newcastle for this super-sized open air event.

“We're also very pleased to be able to announce that we also have Shed Seven on the bill as well as one of the region's best new bands, Hyde & Beast.

“If we're lucky, the sun will be shining on Times Square in July and fans of 90s British indie and live music, in general, are in for a royal treat.”

Ocean Colour Scene, who hail from Birmingham, have a story that is already the stuff of legend: a rip-roaring rock’n’folk odyssey set against a backdrop of 21 years of UK pop culture at its very best.

In this 23-year existence, Ocean Colour Scene have notched up nine albums, three of which went Top 5 – 1996’s Moseley Shoals, 1997’s Marchin’ Already and 1999’s One From The Modern – and a run of nine successive Top 20 hit singles commencing with 1996’s The Riverboat Song. They supported Oasis at their massive Knebworth shows that same year, and two years later helmed the biggest arena tour of any UK band to date. Their achievements have been nothing short of phenomenal.

From their days as Breton-shirt wearing disciples of The Stone Roses (debut single ‘Sway’) to million selling Britpop superstars (‘Marchin’ Already’ bumped Oasis’ ‘What the Story’ from the top spot in 1997) to long-term touring allies with Paul Weller, they have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the greats of modern British rock.

Ocean Colour Scene will be performing live at Times Square, Newcastle on Saturday, July 30 2016. The event will kick-start at 2 pm and will close at 11 pm.
