Northumberland's oldest ukelele player?

It was the night before Bunt Morton's 90th birthday and the Wooler resident decided to celebrate by doing what he does every Wednesday since he took up the instrument three years ago '“ playing the ukelele with his friends.

The nonagenarian, pictured front and centre above, reached the landmark last Thursday, but celebrated with his friends in the ukelele group, The Angel Delights, the night before at their regular meeting in The Angel.

Some of the members of Glendale Middle School’s ukelele group, which is supported by The Angel Delights, also turned up and Bunt was very moved by their performance, which included a very energetic rendition of The Jungle Book’s I Wanna Be Like You.

Bunt, who is likely the oldest ukulele group member in Northumberland, started playing when he was 87 and for the past three years has played at numerous events across the county to support local good causes.
