On Sunday at 7.30pm, the Queen’s Head in Rothbury will be just one of the hundreds of pubs across the UK taking part in Pub Aid’s World’s Biggest Pub Quiz.

The aim of the evening is to raise as much money as possible for local causes and charities as well as trying to break the Guinness World Record for the largest multi-venue quiz.

Pubs are encouraged to choose a charity to benefit and The Queen’s Head has chosen CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children and young people’s cancer charity.

CLIC Sargent fund-raising manager, Dee Tyler, said: “This is a wonderful way to support CLIC Sargent and we are very thankful to the Queen’s Head for signing up as well as the other pubs in the area that have done the same.

“If you ever needed an excuse to go to the pub, this is it!”

Pub Aid is a volunteer working party that is dedicated to highlighting the work done by UK pubs for charity.

CLIC Sargent knows the difference a pub’s support can make after being chosen as the charity of the year for 2015 by the Village Inn in Longframlington. That relationship saw the pub raise almost £14,000 for the charity.

Queen’s Head landlady, Teresa Wilson, said: “We decided to enter as it’s a great way to help charities and it’s great fun. We have a quiz every Wednesday and have roped in everyone who normally comes to that and a few more besides.

“We are raising funds throughout the year for various local charities but we decided to support children with cancer so chose CLIC Sargent.”

The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz is supported by the online giving page Just Giving. Any pubs that are interested in signing up to the event can do so via www.worldsbiggestquiz.pubaid.com If you do choose to take part and consider CLIC Sargent as your chosen charity, contact Dee on 07767 621705 or [email protected] for materials.
