A Jack Russell, from north Northumberland, is through to the national final of a competition to find the fittest dog in the UK.
Bella, from Wooler, has been crowned the winner in the small dog category for the North East and is now in the national final of the competition run by Butcher’s Pet Care.
Bella will go nose-to-nose with ten other finalists and now needs people in the region to vote for her to be named the national category winner. It’s easy to vote, just visit the Butcher’s Facebook page from Monday until Saturday, May 16 to show your support. The three dogs with the most votes will then be judged by experts to select the overall winner.
Ali Middleton, who owns Bella, said: “I’m really excited we have made it through to the finals of this competition. Bella is a rescue dog who has been on quite a journey. She has lots of energy and loves nothing more than playing ball on the beach. We would like people from the region to show their support and vote for Bella.”
The Fittest Dog in the UK competition is a nationwide search to find and recognise the nation’s happy and healthy hounds which are full of life and have bags of personality.
Clare Scallon, from Butcher’s Pet Care, said: “We want to celebrate fit, healthy and active dogs across the nation no matter their breed or background. It’s the second year we have run this competition. Bubb, last year’s winner, was a beautiful Hungarian vizsla. This year, the number of entries is exceptionally high and I would like to congratulate all of our finalists for getting this far. It’s certainly going to be no easy task to pick the winner so we need your votes to help us to decide.”
Three national category winners will receive a year’s supply of Butcher’s dog food, including the newly-launched ranges; Simply Gentle, Butcher’s Superior and Surf & Turf, giving more choice for owners to help their dogs be as Fit as a Butcher’s dog.
A panel of dog experts will then select the national Butcher’s Fittest Dog in the UK champion who will also be rewarded with a £500 holiday voucher to spend in the UK. Judges include Mike Mullan, dog behaviourist and former Crufts judge, Ryan O’Meara, publisher of K9 Magazine and canine behaviour expert, and representatives from Butcher’s Pet Care.
To vote for this year’s Fittest Dog in the UK, visit the Butcher’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/butcherspetcare – and choose your favourite. The national winner will be revealed in May.
