Northumberland first school makes necessary improvements

The rating has received a warm welcome from teachers and parents as the school which was previously rated as requires improvement in December 2015.

Since the last inspection, staff and governors have worked hard to make changes, ensuring parents are fully involved in new developments which include class structures, a bespoke training programme and teaching support.

A partnership with Dr Thomlinson’s CofE Middle School, in Rothbury, has also been established, which sees staff working across both schools to share experience and expertise, ensuring the school always has sufficient capacity to improve the quality of teaching further.

Coun Wayne Daley, cabinet member for children’s services at Northumberland County Council, said: “Congratulations to Thropton Village First School and all those involved in supporting the school over the last two years to gain this result. A great deal of hard work has paid off and everyone involved should be very proud of the results.”

Andy Johnson, the council’s interim director of children’s services, added: “We have been working closely with the school to support them in making improvements and I am delighted to see the results so far.”
