Almost 1,500 homes across Blyth and Alnwick are scheduled for improvements this year. The £31million investment is a five-year programme to upgrade homes managed by the council.

The work will include kitchen and bathroom replacements, electrical rewires, new heating systems, replacement roof coverings and replacement doors and windows.

All tenants whose homes are scheduled to receive improvements have been invited to an exhibition at Blyth Civic Centre, on Tuesday, from noon until 6pm.

At this event, tenants will be able to view the choices on offer to them, ranging from bathroom suites and tiles to new front doors and kitchen units. They will also be given an idea of the date when work will start in their homes. Last year's event attracted more than 200 tenants.

Coun Allan Hepple, cabinet member for housing at Northumberland County Council, said: "This work represents a major capital investment by the council to ensure our properties are kept up-to-date. The exhibition is the perfect opportunity for tenants to see exactly what work will be carried out on their property and to discuss any concerns they have."
