Northumberland businesses in the running to win food accolades

Multiple businesses in Northumberland have been named as finalists in the prestigious Food Awards (England) 2017.

The competition recognises the hard work and efforts of the country’s food industry.

Accolades are set to be presented to the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, hotel restaurants, cafés and bistros as well as shine the spotlight on the wonderful local producers who supply delicious ingredients.

The black-tie event will take place at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel on Monday, when the crème de la crème of the English food industry will come together for a glamorous night to celebrate the success of professionals and businesses in the sector.

And Northumberland is well-represented in the competition, with numerous businesses shortlisted across a range of categories.

The Apple Inn, at Lucker, is in the running to win Gastro Pub of the Year, while The Running Fox, Felton, is a contender in the Café/Bistro of the Year category.

Lal Khazana, Shilbottle, is shortlisted in the Best Indian Establishment section, and Doddington Dairy, at Wooler, is up for the Dairy Food Provider of the Year.

R Manners & Sons Ltd, which is based in Ponteland, is a contender in the Meat Supplier of the Year category.

Irfan Younis, of event organisers Creative Oceanic, wished all of the finalists luck, and added: “The tremendous amount of nominations received from the English public is a testament to the hard work of all those working within the food sector.

“With fierce competition this year, we are looking forward to welcoming those who provide and supply us with gastronomic delights.”
