At a reception in London this afternoon, it was awarded highly commended in the loos category.

The citation read: ‘The Alnwick Garden has been commended for having elegant toilets with glass basins with fibre-optic lighting flowing through them changing colour and clean and tidy stalls.

‘The loos are converted potting sheds, popular with visitors and already an award-winner’.

The category winner was Lowther Castle and Gardens in Cumbria.
