Shilbottle made an early exit from the Anderson Cup with this extra-time defeat at New Barber Park.

Lowick made a flying start to the game with two goals in the first five minutes from Aaron Hope.

The Colliers came more into the game as the half progressed and Richard Brown shot just wide before reducing the deficit on 25 minutes with a fine strike having been put through by Jonathon Quinn. Lowick led by the odd goal in three at the break but increased their advantage after 55 minutes when Ben Fairbairn scored from close range.

Shilbottle fought back well to get back into the game and Michael Brown had a good header well saved by the Lowick keeper before Brendan Balmbra pulled a goal back on 70 minutes forcing home a Quinn corner from close range.

They appeared to have drawn level shortly after when Will Farmer headed home only for the effort to be controversially ruled out for off-side.

The game appeared to be slipping away from the Colliers when they were reduced to ten men when Michael Brown was sent off for a rash challenge but deservedly drew level with ten minutes to play when Alex Makin forced the ball home from close range following sustained pressure.

With the scores level after 90 minutes the game went into extra-time and looked to be heading for a penalty shoot-out only for Lowick’s Nial Jones to head home at the back post with two minutes left on the watch to secure a dramatic victory for the home side.
