Members unanimously agreed to turn down a scheme for a new home on land to the south of 138 Harbour Road, Beadnell, which had sparked a number of objections, including from the AONB partnership.

Coun Andrew Tebbutt said: “When we are talking about something as precious as Beadnell, we have to be careful.”

• Proposals for a sunroom, an ensuite extension and a pitched roof over a bay window at 15 King Street, Seahouses, were given the go-ahead. The plans had sparked objections, but the applicant spoke at the meeting, providing reassurance that he had taken the concerns into consideration.

• Members reluctantly approved plans to build a new three-storey home in the garden of 36 Benlaw Grove, in Felton. An original bid had been reduced in size to something that was supported by planning officers. Coun Gordon Castle said that many of the objections were about the plot being used at all, not the design.

• The committee voted to take a closer look at the schemes for new homes on three separate sites in Warkworth, totalling 65 homes; 57 properties in Rothbury; and 20 homes in Swarland, before making any decision. The Warkworth schemes in particular have been very controversial among residents of the village.
