The UK Independence Party will not be putting up a candidate for the Berwick constituency at the snap General Election on June 8.

The committee of Ukip in Alnwick has today confirmed that it has decided not to contest the seat next month.

Former candidate Nigel Coghill-Marshall said: “A further, more detailed statement will be issued in due course after all our members have been informed."

At the 2015 election, Mr Coghill-Marshall secured 4,513 votes, finishing fourth behind Conservative Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Julie Pörksen (Lib Dem) and Labour’s Scott Dickinson.

So far, it has been confirmed that the incumbent Mrs Trevelyan and Mrs Pörksen will be standing again this year.
