'˜No truth' in rumours that pub is up for sale

The group operations manager of a collection of pubs has countered rumours that one of the venues is up for sale, with plans in place to take it to the next level.

Michael Bateman says that a number of initiatives are on the table for The Plough, in Alnwick, to pull in the punters.

The plans include a menu relaunch in mid-March/April; a revamped cocktail offering; and expanding the number of rooms for overnight guests.

A new wedding package to utilise the stylish back room – the B Lounge – is also set to be launched.

And to meet customer demand, The Plough will be running monthly live-music nights.

With the help of Northumberland-based musician Derek Allan, of Acoustic Magic, the sessions will be on the first Friday of each month, starting in April.

Michael said: “We have got some exciting things happening. Despite some rumours, we are not for sale. We are not investing money to do bits and pieces to then pass it on and sell it.”

The Plough is one of a number of pubs owned by restaurateur David Whitehead. The others are The Jolly Fisherman, Craster, and The Jolly Fisherman on the Quay, in Newcastle.
