Nico Meertens, from Beadnell, ran the Bupa Great North Run earlier this year to raise funds for Natural Ability, completing the half-marathon in three hours and 20 minutes.
Natural Ability was established in 2009 to provide agricultural opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
It was developed by a group of like-minded people, some of whom are parents of people with learning disabilities. Based in the Allen Valley in the west of the county, it was set up to take advantage of the local farming traditions and community spirit.
