SPECIALITY ice cream will be on offer at this year’s Alnwick Food Festival – and it has a kick to it.

Nick Spurr, of Spurreli’s Ice Cream Boutique in Amble is providing a new Alnwick Rum and raisin-flavoured product for the festival’s A Taste of Northumbria night on Saturday, September 24.

Spurrelli has also booked a stall at the food festival and will be offering visitors nine different varieties of artisan ice cream flavours over the course of the weekend which runs from Friday, September 23 to Sunday, September 25.

This is the first occasion Spurreli has been involved with the event and the Amble-based business is delighted to participate in this year’s festival activities.

Nick said: “Alnwick Food Festival provides local companies with the opportunity to promote their produce to a wide audience.

“Northumberland has a wealth of high-quality foodstuffs and Spurreli is delighted to be a sponsor as well as being involved with the market-trade side of the festival.”

Spurreli’s Alnwick Rum and Raisin flavour was recently awarded two stars at the Great Taste Awards and is a popular addition to the company’s product range. The ice cream boutique stocks up to 24 different flavours at any one time and has 60 available recipes on its books.

Ian Linsley, owner of Alnwick Rum, is delighted his famous local tipple, branded as Spirit of Northumberland, is proving such a huge success for Spurreli.

“It’s great that local companies are helping to promote each other’s products in such an innovative way,” he said. “I’m now looking forward to a tasting session at the festival.”

The Spurreli boutique is based in the former Chandlery at the Old Boat Yard, Amble, and Nick is enthusiastic about using local ingredients in his recipes.

“We try to use local ingredients whenever possible and help promote other Northumberland businesses,” he said.

“Milk is supplied from Marley Cote Wall Farm and, in turn, we’re now supplying ice cream to local restaurants such as Zecca in Amble and Dandelion in Alnmouth.”
