The new road to the Willowburn Park housing development is now open to traffic ahead of its official opening on June 1.
Taylor Drive, named after long-serving county and district councillor John Taylor, goes up past the new high school and will serve as the main access to the new homes.
The scheme was delivered within budget and ahead of programme by Northumberland County Council’s highways and neighbourhood services team.
Barry Spall, from the Northumberland Estates, said: “The new road is an important milestone in progressing long-term plans to improve a wide range of facilities on this side of Alnwick.
“Working closely with Northumberland County Council over many years, we have recently seen the relocation of the high school and now the rest of the development plans are progressing as we work together to bring much-needed new facilities and opportunities to Alnwick.”
Constructed by Taylor Wimpey, a total of 236 properties are being built at Willowburn Park and they have been designed in a mix of styles and sizes from two-bedroom through to five-bedroom with the aim of meeting a growing need for family-friendly homes in the town.
The Weavers’ Court Extra Care development for older people, opened last year by Karbon Homes in conjunction with Northumberland Estates, is another aspect of the plans in this area of Alnwick.
