A charity based in south-east Northumberland has relaunched with a new operating name to better reflect its county-wide reach.

Wansbeck Centre for Voluntary Service has been operating in the south-east of the county since 1987, delivering a number of services to the voluntary and community sector in the former district authority area of Wansbeck.

Due to an expansion of its work into other areas of Northumberland, the board of trustees has taken the decision to operate under a different name to reflect the work the organisation is carrying out across the county.

Anne Lyall, chief executive officer, said: “Our services now cover the whole of Northumberland, not just the old Wansbeck district, and for many months the board has deliberated over a name change.

“Securing the Northumberland County Council commission to deliver support services to the voluntary and community sector in Northumberland until 2017 re-focused the trustees’ minds and vision; they felt we needed to operate under a different name to reflect the work we do from Berwick in the north of the county to Allendale in the south.

“We believe our new operating name of Northumberland Community Voluntary Action reflects the broad range of services we are providing to the voluntary and community sector throughout Northumberland.

“We are grateful to Keltie Cochrane for their support with our marketing materials.

“Northumberland Community Voluntary Action can help groups set up, support trustees, help with Charity Commission registration, provide funding information and advice, assist with recruiting and retaining volunteers and provide training to volunteers and organisations.

“We are also developing the Northumberland VCS Assembly, which will work more closely with the public and private sector to ensure the best outcomes for our communities.”
