A NORTH Northumberland golf club was officially reopened on Friday when Lord Walton of Detchant cut the ribbon at a special ceremony.
Lord Walton was joined by founder Gilbert Birdsall, past officers, life members and guests at the opening ceremony of Belford Golf Club, which was followed on Saturday by an open day where past players, members and villagers gathered for a day of entertainment, children’s activities and golf.
The emphasis will be on the development of a community club with beginners, intermediates and advanced players all taking part with children welcome too.
It is hoped to formulate plans to extend the clubhouse for extra sports facilities and, as before, offer restaurant facilities to non-members and visitors as well as catering and private functions.
Former members are particularly pleased that club boards showing past captains and competition winners will be mounted back on the walls ensuring that the history of the club will continue to be seen.
The club has been bought by family-run business Moorlands.
