A new Northumberland community football club has been given a cash boost from Northumberland County Council’s community chest fund.
The Amble Under 10s Football Club has been awarded a grant of £988 to help purchase new nets, balls, training bibs and tops.
William Griffiths who helps with fund-raising for the club said: “We are a brand new junior football club. Our aim is to kick-start junior football in the town providing a safe local, base for children to play.
Our club is very popular and our membership is starting to grow, however we are a voluntary group and funds are limited. This financial contribution from the council is really appreciated.”
Coun Dave Ledger, policy board member for corporate resources at Northumberland County Council said: “This club provides an interest for local children and encourages fitness and friendships. We are delighted to have been able to offer financial support for this worthwhile local cause.”
The council’s community chest scheme aims to support activities that will benefit and are needed by local communities. It is open to any voluntary or community, not-for-profit groups or organisations based in, or predominantly serving Northumberland.
