New kit for drummers thanks to the police

Two young women can now beat comfortably to the sound of their drums after a donation from police.

Officers in Northumberland have donated two light-weight drum harnesses and stands to Northumberland Scottish Pipes and Drums to help support two of the drummers who suffer from joint and muscle problems.

Rhys Grant, of South Charlton, and Helen Nicholson can now play with the band in more comfort.

The equipment was donated by the Northumbria Police Charities Fund.

Sarah Dodds, Northumberland Charities Trustee, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to assist the band with the purchase of this equipment.

“Helen and Rhys until recently were practising on borrowed equipment which was cumbersome and heavy. The new equipment enables both girls to participate fully in the band’s activities.”
