Warkworth WI president Marion Jones welcomed 45 members, one new member and two visitors.
Marion read out the list of jobs and responsibilities of the new committee. She invited the members to consider what format the Christmas party should take this year, given we needed to restrict it to a budget; whether a pooled supper and paid entertainment or a catered supper with in-house entertainment. We were asked to complete a slip of paper giving our preferences.
New programmes had been given out.
The email sent by Serena was read, detailing the itinerary for the coach trip on July 7. Members were asked to make their choices from the Barn at Beal menu as the order needed to be submitted by June 30. A board and menus were circulated. Helen Wilson had volunteered to co-ordinate this as Judy will be on holiday.
Correspondence included a thank-you card from Joanne Patrick, WI advisor, an invitation to tour Hatton Gallery, July 16; croquet at Newcastle, August 7; Harvest Festival cookery demonstration, September 10; craft taster day, Wall, September 19; and darts and dominoes competitions.
There was a reminder of the WI quiz. A team needed to be formed and application submitted by June 25.
Joyce Tweedy won the birthday chocolates and Jan Shotton the competition to design a get well card. The competition had been planned to coincide with the topic of the night’s talk which was the new Northumbria A&E hospital.
Dr Myra Doshi gave the presentation about the new hospital at Cramlington, assisted by Anna Gay. She gave a comprehensive and informative talk on the way the NHS A&E services in this part of the North East are being re-organised and improved so that patients needing emergency care will be seen immediately by specialist doctors. Patients with minor injuries will still attend the local hospitals, such as Wansbeck.
We were shown photographs of the very modern facilities. There was great interest shown and many questions from our members, ably answered by Dr Doshi.
