New Hedley Hall at holiday park is a very fitting legacy
A family-run caravan park has unveiled a new building, named in honour of the man who helped to transform the resort into a renowned holiday destination.
The latest addition at Barmoor Castle Country Park, near Lowick, has been called Hedley Hall, in memory of Hedley Lamb.
The building, designed by local architect David Dobson, will be used to host local exhibitions and run classes for guests.
It was officially opened towards the end of last month by Lord Joicey, of Ford and Etal Estates, and it marks an exciting chapter in Barmoor Castle Country Park’s history.
The name of the building had been kept a closely-guarded secret, but was cheered by all at the ceremony.
It was felt to be a fitting tribute and legacy to Hedley Lamb, whose vision for Barmoor Castle is being well and truly delivered by his wife Ann and son Jamie Lamb.
Ann and Hedley bought Barmoor Castle in 1979 and then spent 11 years transforming the neglected castle grounds to make it into a beautiful holiday park.
With a vision to create a park parallel to none, the family worked tirelessly to create a stunning holiday park, full of trees, wildlife and quality holiday homes.
Nearly 30 years on, Barmoor Castle is a stunning country park, still run by the Lamb family, with baby Freddie the newest addition and marking the next generation for Barmoor Castle.
Sadly, Hedley died in 2011 but Ann, Jamie and his wife Jodi have continued to run the park with an ambition for excellence and an eye for constant improvement.
It has been a labour of love over the years and the opening of Hedley Hall was a day of real celebration and poignancy.
Indeed, Barmoor Castle’s longest guest, Hazel Talbot, said: “I had a lump in my throat when I saw the name.”
The new building looked fantastic in the sunshine and hundreds of people came out to watch Lord Joicey unveil the name and opening plaque.
A new beer, Barmoor Brew, brewed especially by Cheviot Brewery for the occasion, also went down very well with all the guests.
