New drive for coastal volunteers

People living in coastal communities are being asked to get involved and make a difference by becoming Coastguard rescue officers.

HM Coastguard is the emergency service responsible for coordinating maritime search and rescue in the UK.

Transport Minister responsible for the Coastguard, John Hayes MP, launched the new recruitment campaign during his visit to Humberside.

There are 347 teams nationwide made up of more than 3,500 volunteers, but there are always vacancies.

Currently there are more than 300 vacancies across the UK, including 80 in the east of the country.
