New date set for arrival of Amble's new lifeboat

The £2million, state-of-the-art, Shannon-class vessel was scheduled to arrive at the station on Wednesday, October 12, after a major fund-raising drive to help pay for her.
However, two days earlier, the team announced that the homecoming would be postponed ‘owing to an issue with its engine which developed on passage to Amble’.

Hide AdAt the time, the RNLI said that a new arrival date will be announced as soon as possible and a statement read: “A specialist team has assessed the engine today (Monday, October 10) and has ascertained that the Shannon will need to return to the charity’s All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole, Dorset, for the necessary repair to take place.”
Now, Katrina Cassidy, chairman of Amble Lifeboat Fundraisers, has confirmed that the new arrival date is Friday, November 18.
On Facebook, she posted: “After two years of fund-raising, Amble RNLI’s new Shannon Class Lifeboat will be arriving on station from Poole on Wednesday, October 12, at 1316 (weather permitting). On behalf of the Amble Lifeboat Fundraisers, the RNLI Management Committee and the crew and volunteers at RNLI Amble, you are invited to welcome the Shannon into Amble for the first time. The official naming and dedication ceremony will be in the spring of 2017, but we’d like you to come along and show your support for the new boat, which you’ve all helped bring to Amble by your generous and continuing support to your RNLI Station.
