New county adviser offers her support

Jane Dungait, whose family farms near Morpeth, has joined the National Farming Union’s (NFU) North East team as county adviser for Northumberland and North Durham.

A qualified rural surveyor, Jane brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job.

She has worked for Buccleuch Estates in the Scottish Borders, Smiths Gore in Berwick, and most recently for the National Trust across Northumberland.

Based at Kirkley Hall, near Ponteland, she will now help to strengthen the NFU’s expertise in tenancy issues.

The new adviser said she is looking forward to meeting as many members as possible and getting acquainted with the issues affecting her patch.

“There is always plenty happening across the county, thanks to the effort put in by our county team of elected farmer representatives and, of course, my predecessor Samantha Charlton,” she said.

“I know we will have our work cut out representing all our local members as Brexit negotiations get under way, but this is a challenge we will all relish.”

She added: “As well as focusing on meeting as many members as possible to canvas their views, I am also keen to develop links across the supply chain to ensure we have the best chance of presenting a united front when it comes to promoting British food and farming.”
