The construction of a stand-alone classroom block with welfare facilities at Hipsburn First School has been given the green light.
The application is one in a series of bids to expand first schools in the Alnwick Partnership, which are to become primary schools from September this year.
The application went before the county council’s planning and performance committee on Tuesday as the governing body had objected at first.
However, a statement read out at the meeting made it clear that they had changed their position, following ‘categorical assurances’ from the county council it would meet all requirements.
Coun Heather Cairns said: “Given the timescale, I move the recommendation, but with a heavy heart because they don’t look pretty.”
