The Channel 4 programme features the TV presenter and Michelin-starred French chef, who has run Le Gavroche in London since 1993, going in search of secret eateries and food mavericks.

Tonight’s episode two sees Michel visit the North East, visiting the Treehouse Restaurant as well as Riley’s Fish Shack, based in King Edward’s Bay in Tynemouth and the Cook House in Newcastle’s Ouseburn.

The treetop structure, a major feature of the refurbishment of The Alnwick Garden, was first opened to the public 10 years ago in early 2005.

In February 2015, the restaurant made it onto a world top-10 list – for ‘fabulously quirky’ places to eat. TripAdvisor, the worldwide travel and reviews site, created the list which featured just one in the UK – the Treehouse.

‘Fine dining in the most magical of settings’ was the Gazette’s verdict when we reviewed it last July.

The episode airs tonight at 8pm on Channel 4 and can be watched an hour later on Channel 4+1.
