Bethan Roberts, from Warkworth, will be trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro for the charity Dig Deep.
She is doing the gruelling challenge to raise money for water and sanitation projects in Kenya. And to help her collect funds before the climb, she has organised a music night at Amble’s Bede Street Club, which takes place on Saturday and will feature local band, Come Together, playing 60s and 70s classics. Doors open at 7.30pm and entry is £3.
Kilimanjaro – the tallest free-standing mountain on the planet – stands at 5,895metres and is described as one of the toughest treks in the world.
It’s going to be a challenge, but Bethan, who is studying interior design at Northumbria University, is determined to complete the six-day climb, taking place later this year.
