MP receives A1 update ahead of roadshows

MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan and Prime Minister David Cameron during his visit to Northumberland to announce funding for the A1 project.

She saw the material that will be on display at the roadshows and discussed the plans to dual and upgrade the A1 in the county.

A series of public awareness events about the scheme are taking place over the next fortnight:

Morpeth: Tuesday, May 17, 2pm to 8pm, and Thursday, May 19, 1.30pm to 8pm, Corn Exchange, Morpeth Town Hall.

Belford: Wednesday, May 18, 10am to 7pm, Bell View.

Alnwick: Monday, May 23, 11am to 8pm, St James's Church Centre, Pottergate.

Berwick: Tuesday, May 24, 10am to 7pm, Berwick Town Hall, Marygate.

After the meeting, Mrs Trevelyan said: "It is so important as many people as possible go along to these roadshows to see the plans and have their say. The Highways team need as much local knowledge as possible to inform their decisions. For everyone who wonders how long the process will take, and what exactly is going on behind the scenes, this is your opportunity to view the timeline and find out. You'llbe able to meet the Highways team and tell them what you think."

She took the opportunity to highlight her own concerns about specific stretches of the A1 and explained the safety concerns she has about the Adderstone Mains stretch coming round to Mousen Bends and other concerns around junctions that have been raised with her by constituents.

The roadshow material will be available in booklet form for people to take away with them, and people will be asked to complete a questionnaire to formally lodge their views and preferences.

Mrs Trevelyan has asked for additional copies of the booklet to give to people who can't make it to any of the events, which will be available in her constituency offices in Alnwick or Berwick, can be posted out to people on request and will be available in e-format.
