The university has been hosting students at Alnwick Castle for more than 40 years as part of their International Studies course. Sixty students live at the castle, where they have a varied curriculum. They also spend time with local families to learn about life in Northumberland.

Students live and study within the Castle, undertaking a certain amount of domestic work in exchange for the spectacular surroundings. Many develop unique links with the town and its residents, and often come back for visits.

During their stay, the students also have the opportunity to travel to other cities within the UK, including London, where they have an opportunity to visit the Palace of Westminster and see Parliament at work.

Mrs Trevelyan said: “I have been very impressed with the depth of studies and facilities that are provided for the students and the way in which the university has built up such a close bond with the castle and local community here in Alnwick and beyond.”
