Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after crash

Police are appealing for information following a crash in Northumberland which left a motorcyclist in a serious condition after suffering multiple injuries.

At 5.10pm yesterday, police received a report from the fire service of a motorcyclist having come off his bike on the B1331, near Nedderton service station.

As a result of inquiries, officers established the gold Yamaha bike collided with a grey Land Rover Defender while both vehicles were travelling east to west along the road.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Newcastle’s RVI hospital to be treated for a head, leg and arm injury. His condition is described as serious. No-one else was injured as a result of the crash.

The road was closed for around two hours while the scene was examined by officers and the vehicles recovered.

Inquiries into the exact circumstances of the crash are continuing and police are keen to hear from any witnesses.
