Morpeth on the road to Wembley?

The Highwaymen, who have enjoyed a fantastic run in the competition so far, go in search of further glory when they travel down to Essex this Saturday (March 12) for the first leg of their two-legged semi-final.

Bowers and Pitsea are their opponents, and the Northumbrians will be looking to keep the match tight before hopefully seeing them off in the second leg at Craik Park next weekend, on Saturday, March 19.

Morpeth’s build-up to the game has not gone according to plan.

For following their quarter-final 2-0 success over Bristol Manor Farm, they have lost 5-4 on penalties to Easington Colliery (after drawing 3-3) in the third round of the NFA League Cup.

They then went down 3-2 to Bishop Aukland in the Northern League first division, before Saturday’s league game away to Jarrow Roofing BCA was postponed because of the weather and pitch conditions.

That said, manager Nick Gray is confident his side can win through for a trip to the national stadium and a final clash against either Hereford or Salisbury.

Town are hoping to be cheered on against Bowers and Pitsea by a noisy contingent of fans, some of whom have been making banners especially for the occasion, and who will be travelling south by bus.

This is a great chance for the club to write their names into the history books.
