More work to bring building up to scratch

Works totalling almost £20,000 have taken place in the past year to revamp the Mechanics Institute on Percy Street, which is managed by Alnwick Town Council.

The bulk of the money (£13,500) was spent on converting the oil heating system to a two-pipe gas system, while £3,800 was spent on a new low-energy lighting system with some automatic lights.

The interior was redecorated throughout, but the external decoration is still to do. Other items planned for the forthcoming year include connecting the hot-water system to the new boiler, new external rear doors, replacement guttering and new chairs.

The accounts for 2015/16 show that income increased with an extra £1,157 while expenditure dropped by £3,000 due to reduced energy bills.
