The Chief Forecaster says: 'An area of more frequent rain, sleet and snow over parts north eastern England will continue into Sunday morning introducing an increased ice risk on untreated surfaces where skies become clear until a couple of hours after dawn.

'Meanwhile, a cold north easterly flow has become established across much of Scotland with sleet and snow showers affecting areas exposed to the north east. During Sunday morning, these showers will become more frequent over the far north of Scotland and the Northern Isles.'

Northumberland County Council gritting teams are currently working county-wide treating problem areas.

All secondary and primary gritting networks were treated yesterday afternoon and evening, as well as being patrolled overnight. The primary network has been treated again from 5am this morning.
