Two-year-old Oliver Shanks, from North Broomhill, has endured a number of major surgeries, as well as having cerebral palsy, brain damage and other health complications.

To give something back to the professionals who have helped him, his loved ones organised an event to raise money for the paediatric intensive care unit at Newcastle’s RVI hospital.

The Oliver’s Army Fund-raising Day took place at Druridge Bay Community Centre, Hadston, last month and included a raffle and tombola. The money has now been counted and £2,107 was raised for the cause.
