Money pours in to fund vet bill for adorable pup, Yogi

Generous animal lovers have rallied round to support a fund-raising appeal to pay a vet bill for one of the dogs in SHAK's care.

Last week, the Gazette reported that the charity was encouraging donations to fund an x-ray for Yogi.

The young pooch had his two middle toes removed before arriving at SHAK, and the team wanted to see if this was the reason why he limps so badly.

The dog sanctuary had set its fund-raising target at £300, but kind-hearted supporters went above and beyond, with more than £750 pouring in for the cause – meaning Yogi could have the all-important x-ray.

SHAK’s Stephen Wylie said: “I’d like to thank everyone who supported us in our appeal to raise £300 so we could get Yogi’s foot x-rayed.

“I’m delighted to say that you absolutely smashed the target, with just over £750 donated so far. This became even more essential as the week progressed, as we spent more than £1,250 trying to save Kai (see story, left). The x-ray provided us with proof that there is nothing wrong with either Yogi’s foot or hips and his leg also looks perfect. It would appear that the fact he has lost his weight-baring middle toes is responsible for him holding the foot up when walking.

“So now it seems we need to find Yogi a very patient foster home who can help him learn to walk on that foot again. He does put it down occasionally, so it may be just learnt behaviour.”
