An experienced tyre fitter has decided to go it alone and start a new business, after being employed by a town firm for nearly two decades.

Martin Nelson, from Amble, has started a mobile tyre-fitting service called Tread Force Tyres.

The 34-year-old has launched the venture following 17 years of service at Alnwick Tyres, on South Road.

He will be offering a range of services, including puncture repairs, balancing, alloy-wheel fitting, batteries and run-flats.

He said: “The idea is to bring the depot to people, so I will be going out to people’s homes, offices or workplaces.

“I launched the business about seven weeks ago and it is going champion and it is getting better and better all of the time. I can’t thank all my customers enough for the cracking start.”

Reflecting on his decision to start his own venture, Martin added: “I felt it was time to do my own thing. I love working in the community and giving people a good service.”

The service is for vehicles such as cars, vans, 4x4s and motorbikes and Martin will be travelling to jobs in his distinctive red van.

Appropriately for this time of year, Martin has winter tyres in stock.

He said: “At this time of year, most people are thinking about Christmas, but it is also time to think about winter/cold weather tyres.

“In the winter months, the average motorist generally commutes to and from work early mornings and late in the evening when temperatures are generally below seven degrees. Winter tyres are constructed with a lot softer compound rubber meaning your tyre remains soft in temperatures below seven degrees where as your conventional summer tyre becomes hard.

“When fitted, cold-weather tyres don’t just give you better grip in snow and ice, they also enhance your grip on wet and dry roads in lower temperatures. If you would like any advice regarding your tyres or would like a free check, get in touch.”

The business has already attracted five-star reviews on its Tread Force Tyres Facebook page. Of those to praise the service, John Read-Hammond wrote: ‘Good job well done. Arrived as arranged and tyres fitted at our convenience. Good value. Thank you.’
