Alnmouth Community Rowing held its first annual general meeting in the village’s old boat house.
The Grade II-listed building has been restored inside to the point where it is now possible to hold events there. Other events, using the old boat house as a base, are planned throughout the summer and it is anticipated it will become a hub for water and beach activity in Alnmouth.
The meeting heard that there have been 19 launches of the club’s traditional rowing boat, Pride of Aln, in the last 11 weeks, with more than 45 different local people using the boat. Tourists are also making inquiries about using the skiff and a new temporary reduced-cost visitor membership was one of the initiatives agreed at the AGM.
Weather permitting, there are regular launches of the skiff on Wednesdays, at 7pm, and Sundays at 10am.
Membership in growing and schools are showing interest, while commercial organisations are coming forward to talk about sponsorship and team-building activities. Anyone interested in finding out more should visit www.alnmouthrowing.org
