Menu launched to take venue to the next level
A new menu is being launched tonight at an Alnwick pub and restaurant, with the experience of a Michelin-trained chef helping to drive it forward.
The Plough, on Bondgate Without, is unveiling its latest dining offering with the aim of taking the venue to the next level.
The core lunch and dinner menu will be the same as the one which has already proved popular at The Jolly Fisherman, in Craster.
Both premises are run by businessman David Whitehead and his vision is to replicate The Jolly’s success at The Plough.
And he has recently brought in executive head chef Kevin Mulraney to oversee the menu change and take the food offering to even greater heights.
Explaining the rationale behind The Jolly Fisherman @ The Plough concept, David said: “I have had The Jolly Fisherman for five years and it has grown exponentially. The whole USP is the view, the food and the ambience. It has become very successful and we are bursting at the seams at The Jolly and we want to replicate this in Alnwick. We are trying to achieve fine dining, but which is relaxed and is rustic and a little bit different.
“It is all about honest, locally-sourced food. The Plough already does well, but we want to take it to the next level. Kevin has been at The Jolly for two months and we have decided to roll the menu out and bring The Jolly’s core menu to The Plough, so there will be things like our famous crab soup.”
The popular Sunday lunch menu at The Jolly Fisherman, which leads to a packed out venue each week, is also being brought across to The Plough, including replicating The Jolly’s Grand Reserve sirloins of beef.
Chef Kevin, who has previously worked at the Michelin-starred Lindsay House in London’s Soho, said: “It is absolutely fantastic being at the helm. It is a fantastic challenge and I am really looking forward to taking the team forward and taking the business from good to great.
“There are lots of good restaurants in Northumberland and the aim is to take The Plough to the next level.
“The menu at The Plough will be fish orientated, but with it being in Alnwick there will be a bit more game on the menu. It will give a hunting, shooting, fishing feel. We are going for London food in North East portions. We are going for quality.”
While Kevin, who is classically French trained, comes into the team, Juan Iniesta will stay as The Plough’s head chef. The Plough also serves afternoon teas from 3pm to 5pm.
