A CHURCH in Alnwick was ringing with the sounds of Christmas cheer on Monday, when more than 200 people gathered for the traditional civic carol service hosted by the town’s mayor.
As well as a full chorus of festive hymns and readings at St Michael’s, the evening was backed up by the Bailiffgate Singers, who performed a stunning array of seasonal songs, magnified by the magnificent acoustics of the historic place of worship.
Generous donations to the collection raised £486 in aid of HospiceCare North Northumberland.
The service was conducted by Rev Alan Craigs, while supporters from the Alnwick International Music Festival assisted with refreshments afterwards, including home-made shortbread and Christmas cake.
Invited guests included Alnwick Town Council members and other civic dignitaries.
Mayor Alan Symmonds said: “The people in this church tonight do so much for the local community and I want to personally thank them for their efforts over the last year.”
