Martin's Walk of Life will raise Cancer Research cash

Martin Smith, from Red Row, passed away in October last year, aged 53.

A hard-working family-man, he played an active role in the parish of East Chevington.

In his honour, family and friends will be taking pace in Martin’s Walk of Life, which will start at 10am on Sunday, May 6.

It will begin at Red Row Welfare and the route will go through Druridge Bay Country Park to Martin’s memorial seat and then head back to the Welfare.

After that, there will be refreshments and a raffle – with prizes donated by local businesses – at Red Row Brick Club.

Martin’s memorial seat was installed after his death. It is located at the North Meadow – a spot where he always loved to be.

Renowned Red Row blacksmith, Stephen Lunn, has produced a memorial plaque and that will be unveiled at the Welfare on the morning of the walk.

Martin’s family and friends have already raised around £1,200, with money collected thanks to a previous raffle and selling Martin’s Walk of Life wristbands at local businesses.

They are planning a dog walk later in the year.
