Man suffers serious injury after unprovoked attack in Alnwick

A 20-year-old man suffered a fractured eye socket after being punched and kicked by a group of men in an unprovoked attack in Alnwick.

The incident happened on Saturday at around 8.15pm, close to the alleyway between the Market Place and Fenkle Street.

The victim was jumped by three males and the attack has been described as shocking and unnerving by Sergeant Sharon Wilmore-Greaves.

She said that the reason for the assault is unknown, but warned that police are taking the matter very seriously. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference number 103433Y/16.

Sergeant Wilmore-Greaves added: “We do have some idea of who was involved, but we are appealing for witnesses and information to help us get a prosecution.”
