A man has been jailed for 13 months following a racially-aggravated assault in Alnwick.

Simon Doole, 19, of Cedar Grove, Alnwick, was sentenced to 13 months following a racially-aggravated assault on two shop workers at a newsagents in Alnwick on Friday, February 13, 2015.

He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court last Friday, where he admitted two counts of racially-aggravated assault and criminal damage.

The sentence follows an investigation by officers working from Alnwick Police Station.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “This was a nasty and vicious attack which left two men requiring hospital treatment. We have worked hard with the victims of this crime to give them additional support and to secure a conviction.

“We are committed to bringing those who intimidate and frighten members of our community to justice and I must thank the two victims in this case who have been determined from the outset to see justice done.

“If you feel scared or vulnerable as a result of somebody’s behaviour then you should always contact police on either 999 or 101 extension 69191 and we will do all we can to bring them to account.”
