Man is killed in A697 car crash

At 11am on Saturday, September 5 the force received a report of a two-vehicle collision near Weldon Bridge, on the A697 south of Longframlington. It involved a silver Ford C Max and a silver Renault Clio.
The driver of the Clio, a 76 year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Hide AdA 60-year-old man driving the Ford C Max sustained some minor injuries and was taken to hospital following the collision.


The road was closed and local diversions put in place while officers remained at the scene of the crash.
A police investigation has been launched and officers are now asking for witnesses to come forward and speak to them.
Sergeant Matt Sykes of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols team, said: “This incident has tragically taken the life of one man and our thoughts are with his loved ones as they come to terms with this awful loss.
