‘Man in his 50s’ killed after being hit by train

A person who was killed after being struck by a train in Northumberland is believed to have been a Tyneside man in his 50s, the Gazette understands.

The incident, which is not being treated as suspicious, happened yesterday afternoon, near to the village of Warkworth.

A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police (BTP) said that BTP believed that the deceased was a 52-year-old from the Newcastle area, but forensic identification is currently taking place and this could take a few days.
